Washington’s Cherry Blossoms
March 2000

The magnificent cherry blossoms up close
The year 2000 saw the second earliest peak bloom date on record for Washington's Yoshino cherry trees, the predominant variety around the Tidal Basin. The peak bloom arrived 18 days earlier than the average date, April 4th. The Yoshino cherries have bloomed as early as March 15th (in 1990) and as late as April 18th (in 1958). Open blossoms can last for 4-10 days.
