We visited Yellowstone National Park in mid-September 2008 with no clear idea of what to expect despite reading and research. We knew about Old Faithful, of course, and that bison and elk often clog the roads. We booked accommodations less than a month in advance and thus needed to move around to cover the week, which worked out well because Yellowstone is vast and every region unique. Here's a brief description and photos of our favorite areas:
